We all know how hard it is to stay locked up inside when the heatwave continues to lure us into afternoon sunbathing or day parties in the park. So rather than feeling guilty about pausing whatever work-related tasks you should be doing, I thought I'd share some of my favourite career-focused podcasts that will give you a productive excuse to take a break from the computer and enjoy the fresh air (with the side option of a cocktail).
1) Guy Raz - How I Built This
I've listened to How I Built This since moving to London three years ago and I think one of the best things you can take from the podcast is that almost everyone had to blag themselves into the opportunities that set up the careers. The successful founders that sit at the top of some of the most iconic and reputable brands are actually the ones who had little experience, no contacts, and sometimes unfinished products. But instead had a strong sense of self-belief. A few favourites are the interviews with the founder of Spanx Sarah Blakely and Bumble's founder Whitney More.
2) Lecture in Progress - Creative Lives
For anyone in the creative industry that is currently graduating, going through a quarter or mid-life crisis, changing directions, or adapting their skills, I would highly recommend bookmarking Lecture in Progress. Along with lots of great thought leadership pieces and career advice, the platform also interviews tonnes of amazing people for their Creative Lives Podcast so you get the chance to really get under the skin of some of the coolest jobs in the creative industry. There is a huge collection of podcasts for you to binge on, a few I would recommend are Chrystal Genesis and Yinka Ilori.
3) Creative Rebels
This was a lockdown find following hours of aimless scrolling on social media and I'm so glad I found their Instagram promoting all the different interviews Adam Brazier and David Speed have created. The podcast is split in half usually discussing the troubles we face navigating the creative industry followed by special guests who talk through their personal journeys, disruptive strategies and how they champion their achievements.
Enjoy these podcasts and enjoy the sunshine whilst it lasts.
